Popular Destinations

Each country has specific rules for pet imports, including vaccinations, deworming, documentation, and testing. The U.S., U.K., and EU are common destinations for pets from The Bahamas. We streamline the process for a hassle-free experience, ensuring you know what to prepare and when.

USA / Canada

The Bahamas is not considered a high-risk region for rabies; entry is smoother compared to pets travelling from other regions. However, airline policies may add extra requirements (like Bordetella for dogs if travelling in-cabin).

Overview

Travelling from The Bahamas to the U.S. or Canada is generally straightforward. The primary requirement is proof of a valid rabies vaccination.

Process

Your pet must have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel.

What Clients Need to Do

  • Ensure your pet has an up-to-date rabies vaccine.
  • Book a veterinary health exam within the travel window.
  • Carry the health certificate and vaccination records with you.

Vaccinations Required

  • Rabies (mandatory)
  • Core vaccines (DA2PP for dogs, RCCP for cats)

Tests Required

No blood tests are required for travel to the U.S. or Canada from The Bahamas.

The U.K.

The U.K. has some of the strictest pet entry rules to maintain its rabies-free status. Preparation should begin at least 6 months before travel.

Process

  • Pets must be microchipped.
  • Rabies vaccination must be given after microchipping.
  • FAVN rabies antibody blood test required, followed by a 3-month wait period before travel.
  • An official vet must issue an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) or Third-Country Veterinary Certificate within 5 days of travel.

What Clients Need to Do

  • Schedule microchipping and rabies vaccination early.
  • Allow for blood draw, lab processing, and the wait period.
  • Plan veterinary visits for parasite treatments and the final certificate.

Vaccinations Required

  • Rabies (mandatory with blood test confirmation)
  • Core vaccines (DA2PP and Leptospirosis for dogs, RCCP and FeLV in cats) are recommended and sometimes required, depending on the airline and quarantine requirements.

Tests Required

  • Rabies FAVN test.
  • Tapeworm treatment (dogs only) 24–120 hours before entry.

The E.U.

Like the U.K., the EU enforces strict rabies-control measures. Preparation should begin 6–8 months in advance.

Process

  • Pets must be microchipped.
  • Rabies vaccine administered after microchipping.
  • Rabies FAVN blood test performed, followed by a 3-month wait period.
  • An EU Health Certificate must be issued within 5 days of travel.

What Clients Need to Do

  • Plan early to meet vaccine and test deadlines.
  • Work with our veterinary partner to schedule microchipping, rabies vaccination, blood tests, and parasite treatments.
  • Ensure the final health certificate is completed close to the departure date.

Vaccinations Required

  • Rabies (mandatory with FAVN test)
  • Core vaccines (DA2PP and Leptospirosis for dogs, RCCP and FeLV in cats) are recommended.

Tests Required

  • Rabies FAVN test.
  • Parasite treatments (for fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms, especially tapeworm) are required within a set timeframe before travel.
