How soon should I start?

How far in advance should I start?

4-6 weeks from your intended travel date is sensible to secure the Bahamas import permit. Export from the Bahamas to certain countries, such as Jamaica, Australia, or the UK, may require more preparation time. This time is needed to bring vaccinations, tests, and certifications before travel.

48-hour entry window

What does “certificate within 48 hours” actually mean?
Your international veterinary certificate must be issued within 48 hours of importation to The Bahamas. You should book your pet’s veterinary exam to hit that window precisely. Your vet should complete the blank veterinary certificate attached to the import permit we email to you.

Is there a specific age requirement for pets entering The Bahamas?

Yes. Dogs and cats must be at least six months old to be imported.

What is Tails In Transit responsible for?

Tails In Transit is responsible for:
  • Collection of documents (send to us via email)
  • Verification of documents
  • Submission of your import permit application to the gov agency for approval
  • Arrange the date and time for completion of International Health Certificate, physical exam, vaccinations and other processes at our partner veterinary clinic (Animal Medical Group) – on the export side mainly.
  • Submission of International Health Certificate and other documents to government agency – on the export side mainly.

Where it concerns the export of pets from the Bahamas, to countries with complex rules, we recommend that you book a consultation with one of our vets since each country is different and requirements change frequently.

What is a FAVN Test?

The FAVN test is a crucial step when you’re preparing to export your pet from the Bahamas to certain countries, like the UK, Jamaica, or Australia.

This specialized blood test measures the level of protective antibodies against the rabies virus in your pet’s bloodstream. In essence, the FAVN test is your pet’s passport to these countries, providing proof of sufficient rabies protection.
